Story

Hi all,

On September 29 this year we (Paul Trudgian, Guy Miller, Will Blamey and Robin Weston) will be taking part in the START Banger Rally from St Austell to Monte Carlo in a car that has to cost less than £200. The car is being kindly provided by Gideon Hillman Consulting, who are keen supporters of our chosen charity, Shelterbox. The route is indirect, taking 3 days through France, Switzerland, Italy and hopefully arriving in Monte Carlo on day 3.

Whilst the challenge is not on the same level as a trans-atlantic rowing race, or a trek to the North Pole, you should note that we have no mechanical skills, a very poor sense of direction, and tend to argue when we're in each others company for more than an hour.

Anyway, it'll be an adventure, and hopefully all our friends, families and collegues will make it worthwhile by sponsoring us generously. We're rallying on behalf of a very worthy international aid charity (based out of Cornwall) called ShelterBox http://www.shelterbox.org

ShelterBox provide emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most. The Founder, Tom Henderson OBE, saw the humanitarian response in most disasters was in the form of food and medicine. Little or no assistance was being given in terms of safe, secure shelter to help families survive the first days, weeks and months as they try to rebuild their lives. ShelterBox was created to fill this void.

The ShelterBox solution in disaster response is as simple as it is effective. They deliver the essentials a family needs to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

Thanks for visiting our page, and helping us to support ShelterBox. We'll keep the page updated with photos of the car we choose, and the obligatory paint job we do to it!
